The Color of Tut

This is rather interesting bit of old news. Back in 2005, when the Egyptian agency governing antiquities and artifacts permitted the examination of the boy pharaoh Tutankhamen's mummified remains, there erupted some controversy surrounding the reconstructed life-like appearances of the Egyptian ruler developed by three different research groups: European, Egyptian and American. These are in addition to 2002 British reconstruction effort. Look at the results below.
Egyptian Reconstruction, 2005

American Reconstruction, 2005

European (French) Reconstruction, 2005

British Reconstruction, 2002

The reconstructions aren't too dissimilar, with the American's looking slightly more robust, and the 2002 UK model even more African. The debate, however, comes in the skin tone. For some reason, the European team, led by French scientist, decided to paint the ancient Egyptian pharaoh with a decidedly European skin tone. Maybe he and Michael Jackson are related, somehow.... And even though I know it is historically accurate to assume the ancient Egyptians enhanced their eyes with thick mascara, he could easily pass for a modern-day emo-homo, no?
