Birrieria Jalisco

In Commercial Center, the shopping plaza at Sahara & Maryland, surrounded by various Korean eateries and sex clubs, is Birrieria Jalisco. Before they remodeled the restaurant a couple of years ago, there was a large window sign reading, Tasty Mexican Goat Dish. I always giggled at the sign, with it's white-beard goat illustration smiling back at me. So my friend and I were in the area and trying to find a place to eat, and we decided to just walk around and pick a place. As we approached Birrieria Jalisco I remembered, Yes! Tasty Mexican Goat Dish!. So in we went.
The waitress came over and, in Spanish, asked what we wanted to drink. Then she asked what we wanted to eat. We asked for menus. She replied that there were no menus, and that they only served one thing. I'm not sure why she bothered to ask what we wanted, but the whole conversation was in Spanish so perhaps I missed some detail. In any case, we ordered two of their only dish.
The waitress brought us a small bowl of onions, one of diced cilantro, a bowl of flour tortillas and a bottle of a hot sauce made from dried chili powders. Then she brought out two bowls of meat. Goat meat. Small chunks of goat meet in a thin brown broth, and garnished with two thin, curved goat ribs.
I like trying new foods, so I took a big hearty bite of the stew. It was good, and not gamey as I was sure it would be. Adding a few onions to it greatly enhanced the very mildly spiced flavor of the meat, though after putting a bit of cilantro onto it, I picked it out because I don't like cilantro. I ate my whole bowl of stew, even gnawing the fatty meat from the ribs. My only complaint is that there was no rice!
