Celebrities In Politics

Everyone is entitled to their political opinions, even celebrities.
Unfortunately, some celebrities are stupid, yet open their mouths anyhow. Take Sean Penn, for example. Yes, the same Sean Penn who took a personal photographer to flooded New Orleans so he could document himself helping people. Ah, celebrities.
Mr. Penn has announced his support for Barack Obama. Good for him. But at a press conference for the Cannes Film Festival, he said this, "I hope that he will understand, if he is the nominee, the degree of disillusionment that will happen if he doesn't become a greater man than he will ever be."
What? What the hell does that mean? How could he become a man greater than he will ever be?
But everyone knows Mr. Penn is an outspoken critic of the Bush administration, charging, among other things, that they engage in illegal activities. And he is right. But you would think, then, that he would be a fine, upstanding man himself, obeying the laws of the land. But like Sean says about George, he thinks the laws he doesn't like just don't apply to him. Celebrity privilege, if you will. I'm referring to is France's anti-smoking law. It bans people from smoking in indoors places.
Asked if he was enjoying it so far, he complained that he had been “discouraged from smoking” – France's smoking ban was introduced last year – before lighting up and chain-smoking his way through the press conference.
Why worry about public health when you're famous? Support the environment by constantly burning tobacco? Every little bit counts, Mr. Penn.
Another celebrity, who tries to avoid the political spotlight, has taken part in this little video about deforestation.
I like it. Sean Penn should have his lips sewed together to combat global warming.
