San Francisco (Part 1: Friday and Saturday)

Friday in San Fran was cold. Saturday, which ends in 90 minutes, has been cold. I strongly dislike cold. On Friday we visited the SF Zoo, just across the Great Hwy along the Pacific Ocean. I'm always disappointed by zoos. Not because I don't enjoy seeing the animals, but because I don't enjoy seeing them penned up. That was especially true here in San Francisco. Many of the animals seemed bored and cold. I was definitely cold!

I'm not going to post many photos or video today because I'm using my cell phone to connect to the internet with my laptop-- and the connection isn't very fast on the upload. I will post a couple, though. Also, I shot mostly video at the zoo and let Rei, who brought his nice Sony DSLR and zoom lens, take photos. I'll post everything Monday, when I'm back in Vegas.

After the zoo we went to the Little Saigon section and had a hearty mean of phở, my first experience with the Vietnamese staple, at Turtle Tower. I have no clue why it's named that.

Friday night we did pretty much nothing. We were going to go out for a few drinks, but Reimon decided he didn't want to.
Saturday we woke up early and headed to the wharves along the Embarcadero, where we visited the Aquarium Of The Bay. This was the worst aquarium I've ever been to; a huge rip-off. It cost $14 a person-- but luckily we had a buy-one-get-one free coupon-- and was worth maybe half that. There just wasn't much to it. A few little sharks, some anchovies, a hand full of stingrays, and a bazillion starfish.

This is one of the craziest things I have ever seen. These are unborn rays. Living, unborn rays.
After the aquarium we took a one-hour cruise on the Harbor Princess. It was so cold and windy, overcast and dreary, that I stayed inside the windowed cabin most of the time. Rei ventured out a bit for photos. I took only a couple. The cruise took us out past the entrance to the bay, under the Golden Gate Bridge, then back in to do a loop around Alcatraz before returning to harbor.
Then we visited the big tourist attraction, Pier 39. Lots of shops and eateries and such there, but we went to see the sea lions which sunbathe on the docks. They were very noisy!

One of the main attractions along the docks of San Francisco, the sea lions gather here at Pier 39 for napping.
Then we came back to the hotel for a nap! After our nap we planned to go eat dinner then have a few drinks at a bar. Reimon again decided he didn't want to go out. Considering he goes out pretty much every weekend in Vegas, I'm not sure why he wanted to stay holed up in the hotel while on vacation in San Francisco. I'm sure he'll try to tell me when he reads this.
And so tonight is our last night in the city! Tomorrow we plan to cross over the Golden Gate Bridge and get a view of the city from the other side of the bay. And then it's back home to Vegas.
