Could

I don't understand why journalist feel the need to be sensational in their headlines. Take a look at this ridiculous announcement from CNN:
Voting machines could bring Election Day glitches
Why does this irk me so much, you ask?
The word
CNN has turned into the Enquirer of news outlets; the nadir of journalism. Such tabloid headlines have no place in respectable media outlets. (Is there anyone on national television with a voice as boring as Wolf Blitzer?)
As for the article itself, it should be a concern whether or not our votes are counted correctly. As I noted in my post about my voting experience last week, we can never really know whether everything is fair and accurate-- we just have to have faith in the honesty of the people responsible for the counting. History shows that it requires much more than a mustard-seed sized belief, but such is life.
Besides, how hard can it possibly be for these electronic voting machines (which we use here in Nevada and in many other states) to add up the votes correctly? Calculators have been doing this for decades. Even Microsoft can get their calculator to make one plus one equal two every time. Surely these expensive tax-payer paid-for machines can do the same.
