Reminders

It has been a very long time since I posted anything. My free time has been occupied with streaming Netflix.

I had pretty much forgotten all about my site until I got the domain name renewal notice. Since I've had the site for six years now, I figure it'd be a shame to let it expire now-- not to mention I have years worth of rambling non-sense which I probably need to backup before losing it all. One day when I'm old I may want to read through it to see how silly my youth has been.

So here I am. I suppose I should stop neglecting it, and skip the online movies every now and then, and find something halfway interesting about which to write before my writing skills (such as they are) further deteriorate.

Halloween 2009: Papa Smurf

For three years I've been saying that I want to be a smurf for Halloween. This year I finally made the effort to make that wish come true. I introduce to you Papa Smurf! The total cost of the costume was about $40, half of which was the red shirt with which I made the had. Because I waited until the last minute to prepare, the hat wasn't constructed very well. The paint took about 30 minutes to apply, and began flaking off about an hour later. I apologize to Christian and Brandon, whose car and bathroom were flecked blue by my crumbling costume. You'll notice in the photo that my beard has worn away a bit of the color from my shoulders.

Karsten in Papa Smurf Halloween Costume

Marshall and Karsten, enjoying our friend Jon's annual Halloween party. It was extremely crowded, and I feared rubbing my color off onto my fellow party-goers. I somehow managed to forget my camera, so this shot with my phone was the only one I took. Several people whom I don't know wanted to get their photo taken with Papa Smurf, so there are several of floating around somewhere.

Mid-application of the body paint. I'd hoped to get liquid latex, but could not find in stock at any local store. Once I decided to do the smurf costume, I didn't have time to order over the net. The only option, then, was the cream face paint, which wasn't really made to cover your whole body. It took five tubes of the stuff to cover my upper body. Red hair is a nice contrast to royal blue skin.

Sunrise

I had another disturbing dream last night; so unsettling that I cannot write of it. That should say a lot about how bad it was, because I share nearly everything. Finally, morning arrived. To the east, the black sky slowly faded to the deepest of purple behind the craggy silhouette of Frenchman Mtn. Rays of gold radiated upward as if from the barren rock itself, scattered clouds turning to electric pink, like the seedy neon city below them. From violet, to cobalt, to cerulean and Carolina, and every shade of blue between, the Creator's morning palette on display in all of it's magnificent splendor. With the rising sun came a happy surprise-- nightmares gone and dreams come true.
